Researchers have successfully programmed artificial intelligence agents with specific personality traits, a development that could lead to smoother and more effective human-AI interactions. A study from the University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering, published on September 5, 2025, demonstrated that virtual human avatars can adapt their behavior to be more extroverted or introverted to match the person with whom they are interacting.
