A new study from application security firm Apiiro, released September 9, 2025, found that developers using AI-assisted coding tools are generating ten times more security problems than those using traditional methods. The research suggests that while AI tools boost productivity, they are also creating a security "timebomb" by introducing complex and hard-to-detect software vulnerabilities.
The study analyzed code from Fortune 50 enterprises and found a paradox. While AI tools reduced simple syntax errors by 76%, they led to a 322% increase in critical privilege escalation issues and a 153% rise in design flaws.
