Google announced that it is deeply integrating its Gemini artificial intelligence model into Google Maps. The update will provide a "hands-free driving experience," allowing users to find places, report traffic, and make calls using only voice commands.
The Gemini-powered navigation will also introduce landmark-based directions. This feature uses "real-world spots like restaurants for clearer directions" rather than just street names. The update also includes proactive traffic alerts to warn users about unexpected road closures.
