A new report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) calls for a significant expansion of federal oversight for artificial intelligence in the health sector. The report, which grew out of a 2024 JAMA summit, argues that the rapid adoption of AI tools by hospitals has outpaced the ability to evaluate their effectiveness and safety in real-world clinical settings.
