Microsoft on Oct. 3, 2025, announced a public preview of its new Microsoft Agent Framework, an open-source toolkit designed to help developers build and orchestrate complex multi-agent AI systems. The announcement, part of a broader update to its Azure AI Foundry cloud service, signals a strategic push to provide the core infrastructure for the next wave of enterprise AI adoption, which is focused on autonomous agents.
The framework is designed to simplify the technically challenging problem of getting multiple specialized AI agents to collaborate reliably on long-running business tasks. It supports both.NET and Python environments.
