Details emerged on September 11, 2025, confirming a five-year, $300 billion cloud computing contract between Oracle and OpenAI. The deal, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, is one of the largest cloud agreements in history and represents a massive capital commitment to building the foundational compute layer of the AI industry.
The contract is scheduled to begin in 2027. It will supply 4.5 gigawatts of power capacity, an amount of electricity roughly equivalent to what is consumed by four million U.S. homes. This infrastructure is designated for OpenAI's "Stargate" data center initiative.
