OpenAI has entered a "Code Red" operational status, according to internal memos reported on Wednesday and Thursday. CEO Sam Altman issued the directive to prioritize the immediate improvement of ChatGPT’s core performance following the release of Google’s Gemini 3, which has eroded OpenAI's long-standing performance lead.
The company is reportedly halting development on peripheral projects, including its advertising network and the "Pulse" personal assistant, to reallocate engineering resources. The goal is to address latency issues and improve reasoning capabilities to prevent user churn to Google’s ecosystem.
