The Real-Time Search API gives applications, LLMs, and AI agents access to contextual conversational data in Slack using existing access permissions and retrieving only data relevant to queries. The system surfaces current discussions, files, and channels while adhering to existing user permissions.
Technical Architecture
Kurtis Kemple, Senior Director of Developer Relations at Slack, explained that "the APIs we had previously were built for ad-hoc, atomic message fetching" and "can't handle Perplexity wanting to do deep research across threads."
