Japanese conglomerate paid $375 million for electric vehicle facility to advance Stargate data center project with OpenAI

SoftBank Group Corp. acquired Foxconn Technology Group's Ohio electric vehicle plant for $375 million on Aug. 8, Bloomberg reported. The Japanese conglomerate purchased the facility through shell company Crescent Dune LLC to advance its $500 billion Stargate data center project.
The acquisition targets the former General Motors plant in Lordstown, Ohio, previously used by Foxconn for electric vehicle manufacturing. SoftBank plans to repurpose the facility for AI server production and data center operations supporting the Stargate initiative.
