SoftBank Reports Successful Outdoor Trial of AI-Powered Radio Network
The results showed a threefold improvement in throughput by running radio signal processing entirely in software on NVIDIA GPUs.
A Breakthrough in AI-RAN
Japanese telecommunications firm SoftBank Corp. announced the results of a successful outdoor field trial of its AI Radio Access Network (AI-RAN) product, named "AITRAS." The trial, conducted at Nvidia's campus in Santa Clara, California, demonstrated a new way to manage wireless communications by replacing specialized hardware with AI software running on general-purpose graphics processing units (GPUs). The achievement marks a significant technical milestone toward the commercialization of AI-RAN.
"This field trial is an important achievement demonstrating that GPU-based AI-RAN can fully execute the radio signal processing required for Massive MIMO," said Ryuji Wakikawa, a vice …
