A New Curriculum for AI

A group of faculty and students at Tufts University School of Medicine published a paper outlining a roadmap for integrating artificial intelligence into the medical curriculum. The initiative highlights a growing challenge within academia: a gap between the rapid, "bottom-up" adoption of AI tools by students and the slower, "top-down" pace of formal institutional training.

The paper was initiated after faculty "knew that students had begun experimenting with AI on their own" and sought to build a responsible framework. The school had previously adopted an AI-focused learning objective in the fall of 2024.
