The U.S. Department of Commerce announced on Friday that the U.S. AI Safety Institute (AISI) will be rebranded as the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI). The change, directed by the incoming Trump administration, reflects a philosophical pivot in federal AI governance. While the previous administration focused on "safety" and mitigating existential risks, the new mandate prioritizes "competitiveness" and the acceleration of industrial adoption.
